What kind of sessions do we run?

We start teaching children as young as 4 years old.  In fact I might even start my eldest daughter playing as she is always picking up a ball and racket when I am playing with her brother.  She is only just 3 years old!  The older generation are also catered for (so if you are over 30 please get in touch!).   No seriously, I will be commencing a veterans session this year.

My philosophy about teaching is to make sure everybody has a good time and a laugh.  That way you will enjoy yourself and improve at the same time.  Enjoyment is the most important thing and if that's not happening then players are not going to stay.

The junior section I run is based on lots of activity and fun match play for the majority of players.  Obviously, for the more dedicated and ambitious players, training sessions are adopted.

Mini tennis is probably one of the most enjoyable and rewarding sessions we do (because at heart we are all big kids).  To see the massive improvement of a 5 year old is just such good job satisfaction.

We also run tournaments at Shelley from Transition Tennis through to adult box leagues which take place during the Summer. It's a lovely venue for such events because of the additional attractions of the Café, bowls and putting. Boscombe Cliff top is only about 300 yards from the tennis courts and if you walk through the park, you have beautiful views of the Isle of Wight, seven miles of sandy beaches and the Purbeck Hills.

On the social side we have fundays and barbeques for the juniors. Here they have the opportunity to play putting and rounders as well as tennis. Rounders is played in the park and is always very well supported and enjoyed by everyone.

For the adults we have barbeques, mixed doubles tournaments, meals out, ten pin bowling, 2 or 3 cricket matches and Italian evenings in the café. We've even been to Splashdown in Poole and of course there is the Christmas party.

So if some of these social evenings appeal to you, and you think you would enjoy meeting new faces and improving your tennis, then Shelley could be the place to come!
